Team building and lightbulb moments

At Sitrus, we have been lucky enough to work with Insights Discovery for over 10 years.

Insights Discover® is a profiling tool that really helps individuals build self-awareness about how they prefer to work and interact with others. We all have strengths in the way we work that help us achieve. Equally we all have characteristics that can hold us back, or make us difficult to deal with. By understanding our working preferences, we have a greater opportunity to maximise the good and manage the impact of those not so helpful behaviours! As Insights’ say on their website: understanding + application = breakthrough! Knowledge is power afterall!

Insights Discovery® is a really easy profiling tool to use. Individuals complete an on-line evaluator, which will produce a detailed and individual report on their personal working style. That is where the journey of greater self-understanding begins! Then, either through a team workshop or individual coaching, we will work through the Insights Discovery® theory and what your individual profile means for you.

It was at a team building session using Insights Discovery® with a client a few days ago that I was reminded of the real magic of this tool. The team were taking time to read their individual profiles. The Team Manager then asked the team if they sometimes found him overly demanding. There was an initial silence, some awkward smiles and then someone said ‘yes, on times’!

The Manager was open with his team and explained that from reading his profile, he could see that he was someone very driven to achieve objectives. Whilst this is, of course, a really positive attribute to have, the Manager also realised from his report that this strong drive could occasionally lead him to be impatient and intolerant with anyone not on the ‘same page’ as he was.

The team confirming this and the impact such behaviours had on them created a light bulb moment for the Manager. Even our most positive behaviours or actions can have a negative side, which in this case could really impact the trust and engagement the team had in their Manager, which could ultimately impact all of their results.

The team really grew that day, both in terms of their own self-awareness, but how their behaviours might impact those around them, both in a positive and negative way. With awareness comes our ability to make change and to maximise our effectiveness.

Team building with Insights Discovery® creates many lightbulb moments. For yours, get in touch and see how we can support you and your team to maximise your effectiveness, communication and collaboration.

Have an amazing week!
